The Annual Fort Hunt Sportsman Relays are an interesting event. There was a great commercial back in the 80's with Michael Jordan and Larry Bird playing a game of "HORSE" to try to win some french fries. Each player kept making their shots. And then they took turns devising more and more complicated shots. "From the balcony, through the skylight, off the logo... nothing but net." And, of course, they kept making the shots.
You know its a unique event when these two are relay partners...
This isn't a McDonald's blog, so what does this have to do with the Sportsmen's Relays? Well, I'm pretty sure those Ft Hunt Sportsmen sit around in a back room somewhere and have the same type of dialogue when creating the unique events for this particular relay party, "Backstroke Relay, with four swimmers all of different ages and different eye color" or "Sibling Race, Underwater Fly, with no breathing" or "Triple Lindy off the diving board, 25m IM, mixed-age relay." Stuff like that. Though many of the races are unique in their design and construction, the fun and sportsmanship is still at full throttle.
In addition to the unique races, the swimmers chosen for this particular meet do not come straight from the ladder. Instead, they are picked based on how they fit whatever unique criteria applies to the races (see above, i.e. siblings, eye color, etc).
All in all the races are fun and the meet moves pretty quickly, which is always a bonus for an evening meet.
So, how did the Gators fare? Very well, thank you. This one doesn't get scored like a normal meet, but Gator teams finished 1st or 2nd in just about everything- 11 out of the 13 races. Surprisingly, it was the Triple Lindy/25m IM one that hurt us. Apparently our dive game just isn't that strong. Who knew? But seriously, 11 out of 13 in the top two... how awesome is that? And super importantly, the 15-18 year old coaches pulled out the huge win in the "big one"... an almost too close to call Coaches Race between all of the teams.
Coaches Win! Ahhh.... bragging rights.
An evening of fun, fast swimming, and no lightning or thunder. Can't beat that.
I got some awesome shots of this boy several years ago at a meet zoomed in tight from the mid thigh up that are absolutely beautiful https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_QQiPrTDmkI/XR_Tgt-j-_I/AAAAAAAASlg/3nwowwio8dk_gxr5a2CVUBguMtaVqIf0ACKgBGAs/s0/D71_8101.jpg I have several pictures of him on display life size in the main living area of my home and my bedroom. The pictures are clear and sharp and so much detail when I walk up to have a look at him and admire him he appears to be standing directly in front of me. Almost looks like I can reach out and touch him which is really cool. His pictures so beautiful I love having him on display and showing him off.
