Cameron Morey and Jessie Bricker stepped up this week for the Gators and earned Swimmer of the Week awards for the second week of the season.
With Wahoos to the fight of him, Wahoos to the left of him, boldly Cameron swam and well, into the jaws of death. Honor the swim he made, honor Cameron Morey. (You may think it is a cheap literary trick to borrow so heavily from Lord Alfred Tennyson, but I prefer to think of it as an homage).
Anyhow, Cameron was surrounded by two Wahoos with faster times than he going into the 11-12 backstroke race, but when it finished, he was the victor by 0.16 seconds, snatching victory away from the previously faster Wakefield Chapel boys. He was so smooth you could say Morey swam like a Moray eel (okay, THAT is a cheap literary trick).
Jessie Bricker earned swimmer of the week honors for the girls for stopping the bleeding and getting the meet back on track -- changing the momentum and making it close. Jessie won the 11-12 girls freestyle race, after the Wahoos had racked up five straight freestyle wins to start the meet.
Last week's winners were Maddy Bolger and Gus Leyden. Individual winners can not repeat. All are chosen at the discretion of the editor, who welcomes your input as long as you recognize he's not going to listen to it at all.
