In Unexpected News, Cassidy Bayer Breaks A Team Record

Long-time Gator observers were shocked when it took Cassidy Bayer until the third A meet to finally break the girls 15-18 50 meter backstroke record set last year.

Less than 30 seconds after this picture was taken,

Cassidy became the proud owner of a new team record.

(Editor's Note: How could you be shocked -- this was the first time she swam backstroke this season at an A meet/Time Trials, so it was first chance for her to break it!  Reporter: Thanks -- you are killing what little drama there was surrounding this record!)

Cassicy swam a 30.09 to break Sara Bertram's record of 30.56, set on July 26, 2014.

Some pronounce it "Bay-er."  The 

right way is either "Buy-er" or "winn-er"

"We're excited that Cassidy is on the team.  We think she can contribute and help the team," said Team Rep Jim Phalen in his understated way.

"I was just hoping Cassidy would break the backstroke record some time in her four years as a 15-18 year old, so it's neat that she did it the first time she had the chance," said her proud mother, Emily Bayer.

"Whatever," said her dad, Tom Bayer, "Time for her to swim more laps!"
