Gators were pumped for the meet
MVP fell 206.5-213.5 to the Stingrays as the division crown slipped from the hands of the Gators by the narrowest of margins. MVP had to win one of the mixed age relays at the end of meet to win it, but both teams fell to defeat, allowing the Stingrays to claw back the lead they had relinquished to a Gator hot streak in the relays. The Gators just could not overcome a couple of bad breaks.
The Gator coaches use the team's Relay Carnival
trophy to stoke the team even further.
MVP is now 3-1 heading into another close meet against Vienna Woods (nickname -- "The Woods," making them The Woods of Vienna Woods. Or the Vienna Woods The Woods?). At 4-0, Little Rocky Run is poised to win the division trophy with a victory next week.
The Gators weren't toothless, regardless of Ginny's smile!
Freestyle presaged how close the meet at LRR would be -- MVP trailed 44-46 after the first ten events. Then, in backstroke, the Gators took a 90.5 to 89.5 lead, with the half point coming on a tie for third place between Ginny Grubbs and a Stingray 8 & under backstroker.

A 41-49 deficit in breaststroke put the Gators down seven points. The margin widened to a 173.5 to 186.5 deficit after a 42-48 loss in fly. That meant MVP needed to win eight of the twelve relays. They won seven, but the winning relay eluded them twice, as LRR won those two relays by just 0.22 and 0.30 seconds respectively.
Zoe peaks out from behind the bubbles.
Gator sweeps came from the 15-18 girls in free and back. Cassidy Bayer, Parker Fulghum, and Elaina Phalen went 1-2-3 in free. In back, it was Jessie Brikcer, Parker, and Torie Bolger taking all nine points.
Two Gators, no Stingrays means an 8-1 backstroke win.
The race of the week was Emily Makin's 0.03 fly win against her LRR counterpart. No boys races qualified, for the third time this season! (Races of the week are when a Gator wins a race with the opposing team swimmer finishing second within 0.50 seconds or less. The closest race for each gender wins Race of the Week.)
Parker Ulghum reminds me of Parker Fulghum
when she swims. They also look alike. Strange.
Double Gator winners were James Piland (free and fly), Sean Jansen (free and breaststroke), Cassidy Bayer (free and breaststroke), Emily Makin (back and fly), Matthew Makin (back and breaststroke), and Jessie Bricker (back and fly),
The coaches stick to a strict diet of coffee and lollipops.
Individual winners were Collin Sundsted (back), Kevin Adams-Mardi (breaststroke), Taylor Makin (breaststroke), Tyler Swartz (fly), and Cole Miller (fly). The Gators only took 17 of 40 first places.
Clark didn't let his cast stop him!
Second place points were a better story for MVP: Tyler Swartz (free), Donovan Kovalsky (free), Andrew Baker (free), Jill Humphreys (free and fly), Gabrielle Greszler (free), Sheridan Phalen (free), Kevin Adams-Mardi (free), Parker Fulghum (free and back), George Schulte (back), Andrei Zaitsev (back), Cole Miller (back), Cassidy Crowther (back), Abigail Dittman (back), Alexander North (breaststroke), Jack Klopson (breaststroke), TJ Heck (breaststroke and fly), Juliana Skopp-Cardillo (breaststroke), Lily Penn (breaststroke), Jack Klopson (fly), Collin Sundsted (fly). That's 23 out of the 40.
Grace got after it.
Third place points were earned by Cassidy Crowther (free), Juliana Skopp-Cardillo (free), Zoe Greszler (free), Elaina Phalen (free and fly), Taylor Makin (back), Torie Bolger (back), Samantha Cowen (breaststroke), Olivia Heck (breaststroke), Sarah Jones (breaststroke), Gabrielle Greszler (fly), Sheridan Phalen (fly), George Schulte (free), Michael Ienzi (back), Tristan Colaizzi (breaststroke), Gavin Fore (fly), and Andrew Baker (fly), for 17 third place finishes.
Gator parents were riveted by the taut meet.
